Jingyue (Charles) Xu
Charles is a student in the Computation and Neural Systems option at Caltech. Co-advised by Professor David Anderson and Professor John Doyle, he investigates architectural and mechanistic principles underlying population neural dynamics. He earned dual degrees with honors in Neurobiology and Cognitive Science with Specialization in Machine Learning and Neural Computation from UCSD. He participated in research in the labs of Professor Douglas Nitz and Professor Ralph Greenspan, studying neuro-cognitive mechanisms of spatial navigation in the rat and computational principles of working memory in the fly, respectively.
Charles enjoys exploring a variety of interests, from reading philosophy of mind to photographing natural scenes. He appreciates a good balance of rational inquiry and creative expression, often finding inspiration in music, art, and thoughtful conversation, and he takes pleasure in discovering new cuisines and sharing good food with friends.
